Celebration of Local Waters

Celebration of Local Waters

Sunday, April 27, 12:45 p.m.
15 Rutherford Place (and via Zoom)
Hosted by Fifteenth Street Friends

Water is life. It connects all living things, and as New Yorkers, we are fortunate to be surrounded by more than 500 miles of waterfront—from the Hudson and East Rivers to New York Bay and beyond.

Join a special Earth Month event that celebrates our local waterways and the life they sustain. Hear from an inspiring lineup of speakers, including NASA scientist Dorothy Peteet, water engineer Christine Suhonen, and Agata Poniatowski (above, with oyster) of the Billion Oyster Project, as they discuss the creatures that inhabit our rivers and estuaries, the environmental history encoded in sediment, and the groundbreaking restoration efforts underway.

Enjoy a complimentary light lunch at 12:15 p.m. before the program begins, along with a presentation by First Day School and a live performance from Reverend Billy and the Stop Shopping Choir. Whether you’re an environmentalist, student, or simply water-curious, this event will leave you informed and inspired.
